Fostering
Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster home for BBR. Fostering can be a challenge at times but is always rewarding! We consider our foster homes to be a crucial part of our organization and screen them just as carefully as we do potential adopters. Before you make the decision to become a foster 'parent', please read the following information carefully to ensure that fostering is a task that you are both willing and able to undertake.
As a foster taking in a new Boxer, there are things you need to watch for and report immediately:
Urination: difficulty, frequent, discolored
Stools: difficulty, frequent, dark, liquid
Water: limited intake, excessive intake
Ear odor (after cleaning)
Frequent vomiting
Discharge from: eyes, nose, ears, genitals
Skin: sores, cuts, bumps (on or under skin)
You will be responsible for naming your foster and conducting routine care:
Daily feeding and watering
Grooming: bathing, toenail clipping/grinding, brushing, teeth cleaning (if dog allows)
Exercise: daily playtime, walks (if the dog is healthy and able)
Rest: if dog is ill or injured you must ensure that he/she is rested per veterinary instruction
Socialization: (after an initial settling-in period of approximately one week)
You will be asked to assess the Boxer's temperament in order to ensure he/she goes to a home that is properly suited to his/her needs. Is the dog:
Good with: children, men, women, the elderly
Good with: people of color, the disabled, people with speech and/or gait problems
Food aggressive
Animal aggressive
Able to have its mouth, feet and/or tail handled/manipulated
House trained
Crate trained
Able to ride in a vehicle without becoming physically ill or stressed
You will be required to make veterinary appointments, and transport the Boxer to/from them, at the direction of BBR. You will also be responsible for taking digital photographs of the foster Boxer to be used on our website.
